National BraveHearts Day
April 28th is National BraveHearts Day.
It’s a day that honors the bravery, resolve, and strength of everyone affected by pediatric cancer.
Today, let’s be sure to recognize the courage of the young cancer warriors who battle this disease with all their might, as well as the resilience and determination of their families and caregivers.
What is National BraveHearts Day?
National BraveHearts Day was founded by Jeremy and Amy Jacobs. Their daughter, Ava, was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2007, and they created the Bravehearts for Kids Foundation to support other families, like their own, who are dealing with this horrible disease.
Thankfully, Ava is now a cancer survior, but many children and their families aren’t so fortunate. The BraveHearts for Kids Foundation, strives to raise awareness of pediatric cancer and to give hope to those who have been affected by this disease.
Why is National BraveHearts Day so important?
Pediatric cancer is a devastating disease that affects thousands of children every year. According to the American Cancer Society,
About 9,910Â children in the United States under the age of 15 will be diagnosed with cancer in 2023. Childhood cancer rates had been rising slightly for the past few decades, but have stabilized since 2010.

National BraveHearts Day provides an opportunity to raise awareness of this issue and to show support for those who are battling this disease.

When I was little, we had good friends who lost their 6 year old son, Bryan, to leukemia. It was absolutely devastating. These families are precious and need our support.
Honoring the Bravery and Strength of Pediatric Cancer Warriors
Pediatric cancer warriors are some of the bravest and strongest people in the world. They face tremendous physical, emotional, and mental challenges as they fight this disease. They endure countless treatments, surgeries, and hospital stays, all while trying to maintain a sense of normalcy in their lives. And these children? They probably don’t have a clear understanding of how or why this is happening to them. I think that is probably the hardest thing to comprehend.
The families and caregivers of pediatric cancer warriors also show incredible strength and resilience. They provide support and care for their loved ones, most always putting their own needs aside to focus on the needs of the child. They navigate the complex medical system, manage the financial burden of the disease, and find ways to keep hope and positivity alive.
Let us honor and support these families as they navigate what is probably the most devastating experience any of us could ever imagine.
