National Catcher’s Day

February 2, 2023 All day

February 2nd is National Catcher’s Day!

A baseball catcher is a player on a baseball team who is positioned behind home plate. They are responsible for receiving pitches thrown by the pitcher and catching them to record outs.

The catcher is also involved in many defensive plays, such as blocking home plate, calling pitches, and working with the pitcher to keep base runners from stealing. They must wear special gear, including a catcher’s mask, chest protector, shin guards, and a catcher’s mitt, to protect them from fast-moving balls and foul tips.

Happy National Catcher’s Day!
