National Freedom Day!

February 1, 2023 All day

February 1st is National Freedom Day!

Today, we celebrate when Abraham Lincoln signed the document that would later become the 13th Amendment.

The 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution prohibits slavery and involuntary servitude, except as punishment for a crime. It was adopted on December 6, 1865. The text of the amendment reads:

“Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.”

Happy National Freedom Day!
