History of International Jazz Day

International Jazz Day was created by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in November if 2011. The day was created to recognize the power of jazz music to promote peace, dialogue, and understanding among people from different cultures and backgrounds.

April 30th was chosen as the date for International Jazz Day because it’s actually the birthday of one of the most influential figures in jazz music, Duke Ellington. Ellington was a composer, pianist, and bandleader who played a key role in the development of jazz music in the United States.

Since its creation, International Jazz Day has been celebrated around the world with concerts, festivals, and other events that showcase the talents of jazz musicians and the cultural significance of jazz music.
