April 23rd is National Cherry Cheesecake Day!
It’s a day that is all about indulging in the sweet and creamy goodness of cherry cheesecake. Cherry Cheesecake is a dessert that so many enjoy and is often a sweet treat on special occasions!
Let’s take a quick look at this yummy dessert and get some great ideas for how to celebrate this day!
Origins of National Cherry Cheesecake Day
Who even knows where this day came from, as it is one of the most beloved desserts in the world, and one of my personal favorites, I’m more than happy to celebrate it!
Cherry cheesecake has been around for a long, long time. There is some evidence that cheesecake itself might have originated in ancient Greece, where it was made with cheese and honey. They were called ‘plakous‘ and they sound like more of a sweet cheese pancake, but I bet they were delicious!
The cheesecake that we know and love today though came from a deli in New York. Arnold Reuben, Reuben’s Restaurant and Delicatessen and The Turf Restaurant, and boy are we grateful for it. And to the American who messed up the recipe for the French cheese, Neufchâtel, and coming up with what we know know and love, Cream Cheese!
