Lemonade Day
The First Sunday in May is National Lemonade Day!
It’s a day to celebrate the classic American beverage, lemonade!
Lemonade is a refreshing and delicious summer drink most every person on the planet loves, right?
I know I do.
A Brief History of Lemonade
The story of this yummy beverage can be traced back to ancient Egypt, where lemon juice was mixed with honey to create a sweet and sour beverage.
From there, it spread throughout the Mediterranean and eventually made its way to America in the 17th century. The first recorded mention of lemonade in America was in 1663, and it quickly became a popular beverage in the country!!!
It became even more popular during the 19th century when it was sold by street vendors in cities across America. These vendors would mix lemon juice, sugar, and water together to create a refreshing beverage that was perfect for hot summer days.
Today, lemonade is synonymous with the quintessential American Summer. Not sure about other countries, so let me know if you’re from anywhere else? Do you all drink gallons of it during the summer months too?
Benefits of Drinking Lemonade
In addition to being a delicious beverage, lemonade also offers several health benefits. This citrus beverage is an excellent source of vitamin C, which helps boost the immune system and promote healthy skin. It also contains antioxidants that can help reduce inflammation and prevent cell damage.
Lemonade is also a great way to stay hydrated during the hot summer months. Drinking enough water is essential for maintaining good health, and it can be a tasty way to get the hydration your body needs.
10 things having a lemonade stand can teach your kids
One of the rights of passage of childhood is setting up a make-shift beverage bar and selling some fresh-squeezed lemonade to your friends and neighbors!
Not only does is teach young people the power of entrepreneurship, it helps them learn some pretty practical life skills such as financial literacy, how to make a business plan, goal setting and basic business skills.
Let’s take a look at some great things having a lemonade stand can teach budding entrepreneurs!
- Basic math skills: Kids can learn about money, counting, and making change as they handle cash transactions.
- Budgeting: Setting prices for each glass and calculating the cost of ingredients can help kids learn about budgeting and financial planning.
- Marketing and advertising: Kids can design signs and flyers to promote their small business, learning about marketing and advertising in the process.
- Salesmanship: Kids can practice their sales skills as they interact with customers and persuade them to buy their product.
- Responsibility: Running a lemonade stand requires kids to be responsible for managing their inventory, keeping track of money, and cleaning up.
- Planning and organization: Kids can learn about planning and organization as they prepare for their sales efforts, such as deciding on a location, purchasing supplies, and setting up their stand.
- Time management: Kids can learn about time management as they balance running their lemonade stand with other activities and responsibilities.
- Communication skills: Kids can practice their communication skills as they interact with customers, answer questions, and make small talk.
- Problem-solving: Kids can learn problem-solving skills as they deal with unexpected issues, such as running out of supplies or dealing with difficult customers.
- Entrepreneurship: Running a pop-up stand can teach kids about entrepreneurship and the value of hard work and creativity in starting and running a business.
There really is something special about seeing kids light up with that entrepreneurial spirit! Whenever I encounter any young person trying to sell something or even raise money for a school team or trip, I do my best to buy something or contribute. They’ll hear no so often, that I want to be that one person that encourages them to keep going!
